A Letter from Grant

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

I am excited to be running to serve as your next County Supervisor for North Monterey County. With your help, we can work together to deliver results for our North County community.

As a father, husband, community volunteer, and your neighbor, I care deeply about serving our community and working to solve the challenges facing Aromas, Bolsa Knolls, Boronda, Castroville, Las Lomas, Moss Landing, Pajaro, Prunedale, Royal Oaks, Salinas, and all of Monterey County.

As your next Supervisor, I’ll stay committed to listening to all sides of an issue and working with you to address the problems we face today, so our North County community, and all of Monterey County, has a bright future going forward.

Grant Leonard.

Hands On Experience With Local Issues

Experience is key for County Supervisor. Over the last nine years I've dedicated myself to working on the key issues facing Monterey County with a special focus on volunteering in North Monterey County.

Professional Experience

  • Planner with the Transportation Agency for Monterey County, 2012-2018

  • Affordable Housing Analyst at the City of Monterey, 2019-present.

Volunteer Experience

  • North County Recreation and Park District, Board Chair. Serving since 2014

  • Hartnell College Measure T Oversight Committee, Committee Chair. Serving since 2017.

  • Castroville Land Use Advisory Committee, Committee Chair. Serving since 2017.

  • North Monterey County Chamber of Commerce, Board Member and past Board Chair. Serving since 2017.

  • The Castroville Coalition, Board Member. Serving since 2017.

  • Salinas Valley Solid Waste Authority, Citizen Advisory Committee Member. Serving since 2017.

  • Castroville Cemetery District, Board Chair. Serving since 2019.

  • Salinas Valley Basin Groundwater Sustainability Agency, Alternate Board Director, Alternate Advisory Committee Member, Langley Sub-basin Committee Member serving since 2020.

  • Transportation Agency for Monterey County, Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee Member. Serving since 2020.

Whether at work or when volunteering, I always work to advance the mission of each organization by bringing people together for common purposes. One of the things I think a County Supervisor needs to be is a leader who can bring the community (and other Board members) together to deliver on key priorities for our County. It's about listening, collaborating, and being willing to put yourself out there for the common good.

The Path Forward: What's Important

Monterey County is moving in the right direction on many of the challenges facing our community, and we must keep that forward progress going. In the last decade, over $300 million in highway improvements have been built in North Monterey County, the County has gotten serious about protecting our groundwater supplies, and progress has been made on affordable housing and homeless services. But there is much work still to do!

We need a County Supervisor with the experience and team building skills to keep the moving forward on these critically important issues:

  • Fixing our local roads

  • Providing more affordable housing

  • Protecting groundwater

  • Bringing high quality internet to rural areas

  • Supporting disadvantaged communities

  • Reducing illegal dumping

  • Supporting local business and industry

  • Increasing educational opportunities

  • Adapting to climate change

  • Community engagement and government transparency
